Welcome to Buddhist Temple

This site is being developed into a Tibetan Online Art School.

This has been my idea for many years, now with new advances in web development this now can be turned into reality. All this can be accomplished using video, scanners, downloads, web-cam, internet phone, and Joomla a content management system. Over the years I have been approached to teach thangka painting in many parts of the world, this could be the solution. Because I am involved in Tibetan art projects and am only one artist I am now setting up the iconographic galleries. I am  only able to work in my free time.

Tibetan Painting from beginning to end

The first step of Tibetan thangka painting is drawing, using Tibetan sacred geometry.  This is traditional Buddhist iconography (sacred geometry) according to ancient texts. With a firm understanding of the drawing, painting instruction will begin. The courses will include making traditional canvas, brushes,  mineral pigments and gold preparation in the traditional methods.

My Qualifications

I spent 10 years from 1966 studying this tantric art form
with various Tibetan Masters in India and Nepal.
Since 1974 I have taught Tibetan sacred art at Naropa Institute, and centers in the USA. Since that time I have worked on large art projects in both Nepal and Tibet .
My experience covers more than a 40 years.
The last 20 years with my wife, Leslie Nguyen Temple, as the artist to HH the 17th Karmapa and Tsurphu Monastery Tibet.

Thangka Supplies

In many parts of the world it is difficult to get thangka supplies
Ordering silk, silk brocade borders, brushes and mineral and botanical pigments,
as well as other thangka supplies can be done here.
Please contact me for interest or ideas.
